Because of this, you will always see a physiotherapist at Physio Sport Med of Oakville. We do not use kinesiologists or physiotherapy assistants to deliver care.


Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)

Massage Therapy - the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues and consists of manual techniques that include applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and/or causing movement of or to the body.


Chiropractic

Chiropractic therapy at Physio Sport Med involves a detailed assessment analyzing how you move and how that can be improved. Treatment is adapted towards your goals and lifestyle. After a thorough analysis, a personalized program is developed using exercise, stretching / mobility training, soft tissue work and/or joint mobilization techniques.


Dietetics

Dietetics - human nutrition and the regulation of diet. A dietitian alters their patient's nutrition based upon their medical condition and individual needs. Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals licensed to assess, diagnose, and treat nutritional problems.

Pelvic Health physiotherapists help people rehabilitate their pelvic floor muscles. These muscles can be weakened by childbirth, menopause, heavy lifting, surgery, being overweight and constipation. In some cases the pelvic floor muscles will become overactive causing difficulty with sex or emptying the bladder or bowel. Change to the muscle, nerves and tissues of the pelvic floor can lead to chronic low back pain, pelvic pain and piriformis syndrome

Registered Massage Therapist.

Michael attended The Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and graduated with honours in May 2018. He received the Sports Outreach Specialization Award, Hospital Placement Specialization, and took part in the Trimesters: Massage for Pregnancy Course.

Michael holds a certification as a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRCms), where movement and increasing joint capacity are key fundamentals in his treatment style. He has a strong interest in restoring natural foot function and helping others to understand the importance of strengthening their feet to create a stable base of support. He is a functional footwear advocate, who is helping to make a change in the way feet are commonly viewed and the misconception behind common foot pain.

His background in competitive sport allows him to understand and treat common injuries found in the athletic community. During the 2018-19 hockey season, Michael was the Head Trainer for the Vaughn Kings Midget “AAA” team of the Greater Toronto Hockey League. He has also worked with amateur, professional and Olympic level athletes participating in sports such as: lacrosse, volleyball, golf, tennis, CrossFit, powerlifting, running, swimming, cycling and martial arts.

Tricia Hayton B.Sc. (PT).

Trish is one of the founding partners dedicated to providing exceptional service and quality physiotherapy. Although running a business has challenges, Trish’s heart still lies helping people obtain the active lifestyle they desire.

From travelling with Olympians to making a difference in the weekend warrior’s performance, Trish understands that assessing and treating the root cause of the problem is essential. Decreasing symptoms such as pain and stiffness is a critical component of successful physiotherapy, but without solving underlying issues, these symptoms quickly return.

Staying current and being aware of best practices provides the most effective care. Trish recently completed a Master’s from McMaster University awarding her Fellow of the Canadian Association of Manipulative Physical Therapist (FCAMPT) status. This means that Trish has completed the highest level of training available in Canada for both sports and orthopedic rehabilitation. She has also completed advanced training in vestibular rehabilitation, concussion management and acupuncture. The drive to learn, combined with more than 25 years’ experience, provides an experience that cannot be beat.

Outside of her clinical and administrative duties, Trish still finds time to work with local and national sports teams. George graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences prior to completing his Master of Science in Physiotherapy in 2021.

He has a profound interest in musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions. He continues to refine his skills through complex courses in areas such as manual therapy, acupuncture, myofascial release, and active release techniques. In his assessment and treatment, he uses a holistic approach combined with hands-on treatment complemented with exercise prescription.

Ansu Mathew, B.SC. (PT).

Registered Physiotherapist, Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist.

Ansu has over 14 years of experience treating orthopaedic and neurological conditions in a variety of settings. She graduated with a BSc. PT from Vinayaka Mission’s College, India in 2004. Ansu moved to Canada in 2007 and obtained her license to practice in Ontario in 2008. She has also trained and is a Rostered Pelvic Physiotherapist with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

In addition Ansu has furthered her education with the APTEI (Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute, Canada) where she focused on lower back, SI joint, shoulder, elbow and wrist conditions. She has also applied this learning to rehab for post hip and knee replacement patients. In addition, Ansu completed coursework in Neuro Development Techniques with Toronto Rehab, and completed Level 1 and 2 Canadian Hemispheres Courses for Stroke. She has applied this knowledge in treatment for stroke, brain injury, Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.

Her professional experience includes working in private practice and community rehab with Saint Elizabeth health Care. She has also worked at Wyndham Manor Long Term Care in Oakville, Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, and with the March of Dimes (Rehabilitation Foundation for Disabled Persons) in Mississauga and Shelburne.

James Maurini DPhty. Dip Sport Physio. H.BSc. Kin. Registered International Sports Physiotherapist, Assistant Clinical Professor, McMaster University.

James graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a minor in Biology (Physiology) prior to completing his Doctor of Physiotherapy degree at Bond University in Australia. James has since returned to McMaster University as an Assistant Clinical Professor within the School of Rehabilitative Sciences. James has obtained his Certificate and Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy through Sports Physiotherapy Canada and is a member of the International Federation of Sports Physiotherapist (IFSPT).

James’ clinical approach uses a solid anatomical, physiological, and biomechanical understanding in order to diagnose and address the root cause of a dysfunction. This approach partnered with manual therapy, exercise prescription and patient education allows for an all-encompassing physiotherapy experience regarding rehabilitation, injury prevention and sports performance.

James has always had an interest in sports injuries and has experience working on field and in the clinic with elite athletes from a variety of organizations ranging from grass roots development programs to elite professional athletes. James was a member of the Niagara 2022 Canada Games planning committee and was the Medical Services Lead for Baseball during the games. This involved establishing medical clinics at two venues as well as developing emergency action plans and medical protocols to be carried out during games time. James was also responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of his medical team during competition.

James has been involved in the international Physiotherapy research community with a research paper published as Lead Author in 2016 and plans to complete more research in the future.

Paul Mazur, BA (Hons), MPT

Registered Physiotherapist, Diploma Manipulative PT, FCAMPT.

Paul Mazur has over 10 years experience focusing on Orthopedic and Sports related injuries. Paul graduated in 2006 from D’Youville College with a Masters in Physiotherapy. He started his post graduate focus in orthopedics and completed manual therapy courses through the university of St. Augustine in 2009, and then focused on the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy approach through Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars completing the course work in 2011.

After returning to Canada, Paul completed 5 years of manual and manipulative physiotherapy training through the Orthopedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and in 2016 he became a Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT).

Paul has also completed acupuncture training through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and provides both anatomical and electro-acupuncture. Dr. Reid is a Sports Medicine Specialist and Family Medicine Physician. She completed her fellowship in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Western University. She completed her Family Medicine residency at McMaster University and attended the National University of Ireland, Galway for medical school.

Dr. Reid was involved with providing coverage for a number of varsity sports, including soccer, hockey, and wrestling, during her fellowship as well as community events including provincial gymnastics championships and half-marathons.

Christine received her physio training (MScPT) from the University of Toronto and became certified as medical acupuncture provider through the McMaster Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program.

She is passionate about human anatomy, movement, and sports. She strives to understand her client’s movement capacity and goals to help people restore their strength and confidence with activities that are meaningful to them.

She has experience treating sports injuries, post-operative conditions, concussion, and motor vehicle accidents. She also treats joint/muscle pain related to overuse or functional dysfunctions. In addition, she offers pelvic health services that help people with urinary incontinence, persistent SI/sciatica/low back/hip pain, and post-partum recovery.

She is fully bilingual with Mandarin and is looking to learn more languages!
